Interview with Boaventura de Sousa Santos
Abstract
Boaventura de Sousa Santos is one of the most prestigious and influential Portuguese intellectuals, internationally, due to the projection of his works, which have contributed to rethink the epistemologies of Social and Human Sciences and help to critically look at the drift of the globalized world, in its imbalances and in the demand for fairer balances. He was the founder and the first director of the Center for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra and of the Permanent Observatory of Justice. Currently, in his position as emeritus professor at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra and visiting professor at leading international universities, he continues to play his fruitful role as an enlightened thinker on major themes and problems. Listening and reading Boaventura de Sousa Santos is always a privileged opportunity to better understand the momentous issues that affect contemporary societies and concerns about the future of humanity.
