Our thematic dossier stems from a study day held at the Center for Global Studies of Universidade Aberta in December 2022, dedicated to rethinking the conversion of Ignatius of Loyola from an interdisciplinary perspective. The aim was to go beyond its historical relevance and to explore the phenomenon of conversion as a key to understanding broader dimensions of human spirituality. To grasp the multiple facets of Ignatian conversion, we examined Ignatius’s transformation through a multidisciplinary approach to spirituality, investigating the examples and archetypes that shaped it. Within this framework, we sought to explore its meaning from anthropological, psychological and theological angles, questioning the contemporary relevance of a transformation of existence that may still speak to all human beings today.
